Drug & Alcohol Assessments

How are FGC's assessments performed?

There are two types of interviews that can be utilized during the assessment phase structured and semi-structured. Structured interviews provide a prearranged sequence of questions that permit untrained individuals to assess clients reliably. Semi-structured interviews are designed to guide trained mental health professionals in conducting detailed examinations of patients. FGC feels that although structured interviews yield reliable diagnoses, they do not provide as much information for treatment planning as do semi-structured interviews, which rely more heavily on the interview's expertise and professional training and experience. The Semi-structured interviews can be completed in 3 to 4 sessions.

What tools does FGC us to screen for alcohol or drug abuse?

FGC uses 4 screening tools. The two most widely used are the CAGE and the Michigan Alcoholism Screening Test (MAST). In addition we use the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT) in conjunction with the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) which measures the presence and degree of depression in adolescents and adults. If indicated, there are numerous other standardized screening tools available at FGC. Please contact us for a complete listing.

Does FGC provide treatment programs?

No, but we will indicate if the client should be entered into treatment and a recommendation as to the best form of treatment with a non-affiliated program or agency.

What can my court or agency expect from FGC about the referral?

We provide 2 types of reports during the assessment process a short report indicating compliance and attendance at appointments. Within 5 days of the clients completion of the assessment process a detailed assessment report is then sent to the court or agency.
